Experience Herøy
The pearl of the Helgeland coast
At the far end of the Helgeland coast you will find Herøy – an island kingdom where sea, sky and mountains meet in a landscape that is constantly changing. Here, nature is close at hand, no matter where you are.
From most places on the island you can see either Dønnamannen or The Seven Sisters. On clear days you can also see Lovund, Træna and Vega on the horizon. It gives you the feeling of being right in the heart of Helgeland.

Perfect for cycling adventures
Herøy is made to be experienced on two wheels. The island is relatively flat, and you get a lot of views without having to embark on long and demanding trips.
Along the roads – and small detours – the landscape opens up with sea, islets and mountains in all directions, making every bike ride an experience in itself.
For those who want to explore even more, there are options to rent both regular bicycles and electric bicycles. With an electric bicycle, you can easily get around the entire island and see as much as possible – without it being too heavy.
Island hopping and ocean adventures
Herøy is a natural stopover for those who are island hopping along the Helgeland coast. Whether you are traveling by car, bicycle or your own boat, this is a place worth spending a few days.
From Herøy you can easily travel further into the archipelago. Speedboats and ferries give you the opportunity for day trips to Brasøy and Husvær – small island communities with a leisurely pace and authentic coastal life. Here you can, among other things, stop by Havkanten for a coffee, cake or a good meal.
If you want to explore on your own, you can rent a boat for fishing or take a kayak out into the archipelago. Kayaking brings you close to nature, and not least the birdlife that characterizes the area.
Get in touch and we can give you tips on where you can rent a boat or kayak when you visit Herøy.

Culture and history close by
In the middle of the archipelago you will find Herøy Church – also known as Helgeland Cathedral. The beautiful stone church from the 12th century is one of the most distinctive cultural monuments in the region.
Just across the road is Herøy Village Museum. Here you can wander between old buildings and get an insight into what life on the coast was once like.
Activities for everyone
Herøy offers experiences for both quiet and active days.
You can take a simple walk along the coast, or challenge yourself with mountain hikes in the surrounding area. A hike up Dønnamannen offers spectacular views, while the mountains of De syv søstre tempt the more experienced.
For a slightly quieter trip, there are several nice options, including in the Øksningan area – with great views of Ytre Helgeland.
If you like birds, Herøy is also a good place to be. There are both small birds and larger seabirds, and there is a lot of life in nature all year round.

Life and events
There is a lot going on in Herøy during the summer. Small concerts and events pop up all over the islands. If you are on Herøy the last weekend in June, you should catch Herøydagan.
The festival offers music, humor, activities for children and a bustling life during the day.
A couple of weeks later comes TENNA LIVE – a new festival held at Tenna in Herøy. It combines concerts with humor and great experiences in spectacular surroundings.
Flavors and places you must visit
Herøy also offers great dining experiences – often in completely unique surroundings.
On Seløy you will find Skolo , known for its popular pizza and the sought-after Skolobollen. In the summer this is a very popular place, so it may be a good idea to book in advance.
Nearby is Augustbryggo – a restaurant in an old pier from 1954. Here, history is embedded in the walls, and the atmosphere is as good as the food.
Centrally located on Herøy is Herøy Brygge . Here you can enjoy a good meal down by the quay, while the boats glide past.
You will have a very special experience at Etcetera Botanical Extravagances. This is far more than a flower shop – it is a place you must experience, with room after room filled with details, atmosphere and surprises.
On warm summer days, Rakelfjæra is a natural gathering point. The chalky white, shallow beach was voted Nordland's best swimming spot by NRK Nordland in 2022. The beach is located by Herøy Caravan, but is open to everyone.

A place you'll want to stay a little longer
Herøy is not just a place you visit – it's a place you stay a little longer than planned.
Whether you come for the nature, the activities, the food or the tranquility, this is a place that gives you respite.
A perfect stop on your journey along the Helgeland coast – or a destination in itself.
